The Great Draft Propensity Project – Panthers

I hope you guys enjoy! Add me on Twitter @ethanhamm if you have any unanswered questions; I’ll be happy to clarify statements. My goal is to inform people about something that isn’t often considered in mock draft; team propensities. I think that, when used correctly, propensities could be a great tool to help increase the accuracy of mock drafts and to give the fan better insight into the War Room on the day of the draft. One note: I know that Macho Harris wasn’t on the Eagles this season. LAST season he started most of the year at safety…before Nate Allen was picked this Spring, of course! I will be doing a different team every day. Today’s team is Carolina. Please tweet, repost, and publicize to your heart’s content! And feel free to comment. And, one more time, add me on Twitter @ethanhamm for future updates!

    Thanks for the post Ethan! I’m a Panther fan and feel we HAVE to do something at QB. Clausen just doesn’t have “IT”. Even with a healed o-line, more running production and better coaching staff, I don’t see Clausen competing with the likes of Drew Brees, Matt Ryan and Josh Freeman anytime soon. And as a championship coach and super bowl winning player, I don’t see Ron Rivera drinking the Clausen Kool-Aid either. Gabbert would be a step up but Newton would be a statement.

    Nice job Ethan. As a Panthers fan, I can tell you that you represented us very well in terms of addressing our needs. I like the idea of dissecting team propensities. I’m a little surprised you didn’t mention Gabbert in the discussion for #1 overall. I think he will at least be considered. I have reservations about Fairley/Bowers, but I do about Newton too. It’s tough to know which way we’ll go. I want to trade down.

    @davlar87 Thanks for the comment!

    I agree that Gabbert is a possibility, although I do think that Newton or another Southern guy is more likely at the position. I happen to like the potential of both Gabbert and Newton personally.

    Being that the Panthers are installing the Air Coryell offense you have to consider AJ Green, especially if they traded down a few spots.

    Hey Ethan, really smart analysis. I’m looking forward to making my way through the rest. Thanks for doing this.
